Look Blunders

When it comes to male fashion, there are more style mishaps than we could ever list in this forum.  We put together a few style/look tips to help combat a few that are particularly noticeable and wreaking havoc on grooming regimens and wardrobes. Flashy or ill-fitting denim The first tip comes from the staple of all outfits…denim.  When it comes to the jeans you wear, DO LESS.  Men, leave the ripped jeans, bedazzled pockets, and fake distressed washes for rock stars and sophomore sorority girls.  Instead, opt for a dark form fitting straight or slim fit to flatter your physique.  If comfort has prevented you from buying straight/slim fit jeans in the past, many brands are adding spandex to their...

How Often Should You Get a Haircut?

Common wisdom says that a man should cut his hair every 4 weeks, with a short trim every 2 weeks to look his best. Here at Statum Style, we'd rather stand firm to our principles than blindly follow common sense. That's why we want to share with you a few simple things you can do to extend the life of your haircut, save money, and still look sharp: First, make sure the barber adds as much dimension to your hair as possible.  Simply put, the more guards used in fading the hair, the better it will look in two weeks.  In other words, if you get a 0 or 1-4 guard fade on the sides rather than utilizing a 2 or 3 guard on...

When we think of a good beard, there are several absolutes to follow while still leaving freedom to create your own style. The most important thing in grooming a good beard or five o’clock shadow is to make sure not to shave too far up the neck.  Don’t try and shave on the jawline or higher.  For the vast majority of people, this actually weakens your profile.  Where your neck begins to go horizontal just above the Adam’s apple should be your reference point.  Shave only the vertical areas of the neck and slightly fade the hair into the bulk of the beard with clippers.  If you must have a clean line for professional reasons or simply prefer a cleaner...
